ISO 22000:2018 – Food safety management systems

ISO 22000: 2018 is an international standard applicable to all organizations involved in any aspect of the food chain, that want to consistently achieve the set food safety objectives through the application of a controlled management system – both objectives arising from the internal needs of the organization and food safety objectives the realization of which is required by suppliers, users or applicable domestic and international laws.

The standard defines the requirements for a food safety management system where an organization in the food chain needs to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards, to ensure that food is safe at the time of its consumption.

ISO 22000: 2018 integrates HACCP principles (Risk Analysis and Critical Control Points) and Codex Alimentarius recommendations, which is crucial for the effectiveness of the food safety management system, whereas the effective application of HACCP and the identification and assessment of hazards for which can reasonably be expected to occur in the food chain, creates a basis for the application of long-term sustainable safety measures.
